Not sure what size water heater your home needs? A tank that’s too small leaves you short on hot water; one that’s too large wastes energy. Sizing depends on your household size, number of bathrooms, simultaneous showers, appliances running during peak times, your fuel source, and whether you’re on city or well water.

As a rule of thumb for Ottawa-area homes: 1–2 people usually suit a 40-gallon tank, 3–4 people a 50-gallon tank, and 5+ people or multiple simultaneous showers a 60-gallon (or high-output) tank.
